Another Patriots defensive end suffers injury during joint practice with Texans

The Patriots' depth at defensive end is getting tested.

Following last season, Chris Long and Jabaal Sheard signed elsewhere and then Rob Ninkovich retired. Then in last Thursday's preseason game, rookie defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. suffered a head injury and didn't return. He also hasn't practiced since.

Then came Wednesday, and according to reporters on site in West Virginia, the other rookie defensive end Derek Rivers suffered a leg injury in a joint practice with the Texans. During a kick coverage drill, Rivers injured his left leg. He walked off with head trainer Jim Whalen and didn't return.

Also, Kony Ealy apparently suffered a shoulder injury, but returned after missing some time.

It doesn't appear the Patriots need to seek help from outside the organization at this time, but the situation certainly is worth watching.
