According to a report from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox and outfielder Mookie Betts held their arbitration hearing on Tuesday in Phoenix, with results expected by Wednesday.

Betts asked for $10.5 million and the Red Sox countered at $7.5 million.

The case was heard by a three-person panel. The statistical model at MLBTradeRumors predicted Betts would receive a salary of $8.2 million, which is closer to the team's figure.

This is Betts' first year of arbitration eligibility. He won't hit free agency until 2021. The 25-year-old finished second in the MVP voting two years ago after posting .318-31-113 numbers. He slipped last year to .264-24-102, but made the All-Star team, won a Gold Glove, and finished sixth in the MVP voting.
