Kevin Garnett’s spirit may be harming the Celtics in their first-round series against the Bucks.

Milwaukee big man Thon Maker was a virtual non-factor during the regular season, averaging just 4.8 points, three rebounds, and 0.7 blocks a game. He also barely played during the first two games of the playoffs.

But over the last two contests, Maker has helped the Bucks even the series at two. He’s put up 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and 10 blocks. And he credits it all to Garnett, who recently posted a hype video on Instagram touting the importance of intensity.

You call it crazy. We call it KG.

Maker says he’s developed a bond with KG.

“The biggest thing is having that attack mindset on both ends of the floor,” Maker told reporters Tuesday, per ESPN. “With him, he doesn’t care who you are in front of him if you’re playing against him. On the defensive end, (defending) your shot and protecting your teammates. The biggest thing when it comes to your teammates, him dealing with his teammates, was always touching a guy, telling him, ‘Stay up’ — keeping the guys positive.”

The Celtics reaped Garnett’s benefits for a long time. Now they’re getting a taste of their own medicine.
