WEEI Releases WEEI Live Android Application

Boston – The WEEI Sports Radio Network has released the “WEEI Live” Android application, giving fans of Boston sports access to live and On Demand audio, breaking news, stories, video and scores from the WEEI Sports Radio Network directly from their Android phone. “WEEI Live” is presented by AT&T and free to download in the Android Market. Earlier this year, the “WEEI Live” application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch was released and has been downloaded over 50,000 times in the iTunes store.

The application, designed by WEEI in partnership with jacAPPS, the mobile division of Jacobs Media, is the most complete sports radio and news application available for Android phones. jacAPPS also developed the “WEEI Live” iPhone application. All content from the WEEI Sports Radio Network and WEEI.com is available in this application, including popular features like LIVE streaming, On Demand Audio, live local scores and the “This Just In” breaking news blog. All WEEI.com columns and blogs featuring news and commentary from WEEI.com’s world-class team of journalists will be available in the application as well.

“The ‘WEEI Live’ Android Application now gives us a strong presence on the two most popular and dynamic smart phone platforms available in the market,” said Tim Murphy, Vice President/General Manager of WEEI.com. “The multi-functional application provides everything a fan of Boston sports needs to keep up with their teams in real time. From breaking news to interviews with players and coaches, this application gives users the full power of the WEEI Sports Radio Network’s coverage of Boston sports in the palm of their hands.”

Similar to the “WEEI Live” iPhone application, the Android application allows users to listen to live streaming audio from the WEEI Sports Radio Network. Additionally, the application allows users the ability to play live WEEI streaming audio in the background while multi-tasking on their device. The application also includes access to WEEI’s popular On Demand library featuring the latest interviews from prominent Boston sports athletes, coaches and front offices members. The On Demand feature also allows users to use other functions of the application while listening, including checking scores and reading columns and blogs. The user-friendly search function allows users to search the On Demand archives by team or show.

The “WEEI Live” Android application also shares similar functionality as the iPhone application for On Demand video. This video feature allows users to connect and watch video from either their phone’s browser or YouTube application. After finishing the video, the user is automatically returned to the “WEEI Live” application.

“With so many sports fans consuming information in different ways, it was extremely important for WEEI to launch our Android phone application,” said Jason Wolfe, Vice President of AM Programming for Entercom New England.  “After boasting tremendous success and rave reviews with the ‘WEEI Live’ iPhone application, jacApps has designed a similarly amazing application for Android. Additionally, we could not be more thrilled to have AT&T further their relationship with the WEEI Sports Radio Network and partner with us to bring fans this innovative application.”

“AT&T is extremely proud to be the presenting sponsor of the “WEEI Live” Android application,” (AT&T rep) said. “This is one of the most thorough and innovative sports applications on the market right now and is certainly a must download if you love Boston sports. WEEI and jacApps did a tremendous job in designing and producing this application.”
