Red Sox take opener over Rays

The Red Sox road the pitching performance of starter Josh Beckett, along with an offense that included solo homers from Dustin Pedroia and Jason Varitek, to claim a 5-3, season-opening win over the Tampa Bay Rays, Tuesday at Fenway Park. Beckett went seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out 10 and walking three.
