The Red Sox signed catcher Gustavo Molina to a minor league contract. The 27-year-old Molina -- who is no relation to the catching brothers Javier, Bengie, and Yadier Molina -- spent last season in the Washington Nationals organization, playing in 72 games for Triple-A Syracuse. Molina last played in the major leagues with the New York Mets, appearing in two games in the 2008 season. The Venezuela native played in a combined 17 big league games with the Orioles and White Sox in '07. He has four hits in 34 at-bats (.118) during his time in the majors. After 762 minor league games, Molina has a career .235 batting average with 46 home runs. 

Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork said Thursday that getting a chance to play in his home state of Florida again would be “a dream come true.”

Wilfork, who just finished the final year of a six-year contract, is upset with the state of his current contractual situation, and told WEEI as much earlier this week. And the Florida native took it up a notch when he told Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Thursday that two fruitless years of trying to negotiate an extension in New England have left him pondering the idea of playing for Miami or Tampa Bay.
