Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, who wrapped up the NBA scoring title Wednesday night, responded to comments from the coach of the Thunder's first-round playoff opponent by calling them "disrespectful." In comments that should sound familiar to Celtics fans, Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Durant gets preferential treatment from officials. Responded Durant: "Ever since [Kevin Garnett] said something, everybody's been questioning how I get to the line. If you watch our games, you wouldn't question it. the NBA should put us on national TV more, I guess."
Durant said Jackson's comments fired him up more. "Because it’s taking away from what I do,” Durant said. "That’s a part of my game, getting to the free throw line and being aggressive. If you say that I get superstar calls or I get babied by the refs, that’s just taking away from how I play. That’s disrespectful...
Celtics coach Doc Rivers joined the Dennis & Callahan show Thursday morning to talk about the upcoming playoffs and the discussion about his future. Rivers addressed a report that he is considering not returning to the team next season. He said the story was completely overblown, although the facts were ultimately correct. "Yeah, but it would have been fact-based three years ago, too, and last year, and the year before," he said. "Every year I go through the same thing, and at this point I'm at the same place I was last year and two years ago. I sit back after the season, and you guys probably understand this: You can't make a decision of any kind -- a good one -- when you're in the middle of something. I don't think about it. I try not to give it a lot of thought because of that."
Added Rivers: "I love it here. I can't get a better situation. I work with a GM in Danny [Ainge] and owners who allow me...
Video of an apparently inebriated Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been appearing all over the web. In the video, filmed with a cell phone camera at a bar, Jones complains about former coach Bill Parcells and draft prospect Tim Tebow while some youngsters egg him on. Some media outlets have refused to show the clip, and some veteran media members have expressed their displeasure with mainstream media promoting the video. Said Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen: "Our business now, too many times, is a fat kid in a T-shirt in his mother's basement, eating Cheetos and writing his blogs — and we make it news. Jerry Jones in a bar, being Jerry Jones, is not news to me. And the fact that some creep slides up to Jones, records the conversation without Jones knowing, then tries to sell that recording — and that becomes news — is an embarrassment to us all."
