The top stories of the day as recounted by Kirk Minihane.
The guys opened the show by discussing the Pats big win last night.

Here are the highlights from Monday’€™s Headlines on Dennis & Callahan with Kirk Minihane, John Dennis and Gerry Callahan. To hear the segment, go to the Dennis & Callahan audio on demand page.

– Four months before the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, three people at Logan Airport caught the al-Qaeda hijackers videotaping security checkpoints at the airport, according to a New York Post report. The eyewitnesses reported the suspicious actions to officials at Logan, but security did nothing to question the potential terrorists.

“It was a different time,” Callahan said. ‘€œDon’€™t you think?”

Said Minihane: “No one ever imagined that you could kill 3,000 people with a box cutter.”

– “Gone Girl,” which stars Ben Affleck, was the No. 1 movie at the box office this weekend, taking in $38 million. Despite the acclaim, Minihane said he wasn’t a fan of the flick.

“The ending was absolutely terrible, awful,” Minihane said. “One of the worst endings I’ve ever seen in a movie.”

“What do you give it, grade?” asked Dennis.

“C-plus,” replied Minihane. “And it’€™s too bad because I’€™m a great admirer of David Fincher, the director of the film. He couldn’t save it. It didn’t work.”

– Comedian Sarah Silverman hosted “Saturday Night Live,” a show for which she once was a cast member. While the hosts admitted the opening monologue usually is not funny, Silverman’€™s took unfunny to another level.

“New heights of disappointment,” Callahan said.

Continued Callahan: “But Sarah Silverman does the monologue, and I’€™m thinking, ‘€˜This is going to be good. Not only will it be good, but it’€™ll be dangerous.’€™ Tomorrow we’€™d be talking about she’€™s in trouble. Network censors are in trouble. She bombed like I’ve never seen anyone bomb before.”

“Not a good start to the year, two episodes in,” Minihane said.

– The Coast Guard rescued a man off the coast of Florida who attempted to run from the U.S. to Bermuda. Reza Baluchi tried to run on water in a “hydro pod” to raise money for children in need, but he got tired and signaled for help.

“He failed, failed at his mission,” Callahan said. “€œI want to see him run through occupied Iraq or Yemen.”
