AROUND THE WEB:

— Kentucky puts its undefeated record on the line Thursday night when it plays fifth-seeded West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. According to WVU freshman guard Daxter Miles Jr., the Wildcats’ season won’t be perfect by the end of the night.

“I give them their props,” Miles told reporters Wednesday in Cleveland. “Salute them to getting to 36-0. But [Thursday night] they’re going to be 36-1.”

Added Miles: “I don’t think they’ve played a team like us. To me, they don’t play hard. To me, they don’t play as hard as we play. Nobody is invincible, so their time will come, and I think we’re going to pull it out.”

Although the Kentucky roster is loaded with future NBA players, Miles said West Virginia won’t be the team playing scared.

“They should be more intimidated,” he said. “Because they’re the ones who have the high standard, and we’re coming for them.”

Miles said the Mountaineers’ vaunted press will give Kentucky trouble, and teammates Juwan Staten agreed.

“Why wouldn’t it?” Staten said. “We’ve been playing this way all year, we’ve had success against everybody no matter what style or what type of players they have. That’s the only way we play, and it’s just up to us to make it work.”

Informed about WVU’s comments, Kentucky 7-footer Willie Cauley-Stein said his team now will have more inspiration.

“That’s good. Adds fuel to the fire. Puts a little personal stuff into it,” he said. “When teams talk like that, it puts a different mindset into your head. It’s not just playing to try to win the game anymore.”

Added Kentucky freshman guard Devin Booker: “A lot of teams have said things, but eventually they have to step into the ring. We’ll see how that turns out.”

— Marlins pitcher Jarred Cosart is being investigated by Major League Baseball after being accused of tweeting a gambler for betting advice.

After someone posted a couple of direct tweets purportedly from Cosart to a gambler, one saying that Cosart bets “large” and is looking for help, word spread of the accusation.

Cosart, who has run into trouble for his tweeting in the past, deleted his account, then apparently opened a new one and claimed he had been hacked.

The Marlins would only confirm MLB’s involvement, saying in a statement, “Major League Baseball is aware and they are investigating it and we have not further comment at this time.”

It is not illegal for players to gamble, as long as it’s not on baseball.

The 24-year-old Cosart was traded from the Astros to the Marlins in a seven-player trade last July. The right-hander is expected to be in Miami’s starting rotation.

— University of Michigan offensive lineman Jack Miller opened up about his decision to quit the team, acknowledging, “I’d be lying if I said that the concussion thing doesn’t score me a little.”

Miller, who started all of his team’s games last season, said he reported only one concussion, although he believes he had more than that.

“I know I’ve had a few, and it’s nice walking away before things could’ve gotten worse,” he told ESPN. “And yes, multiple schools have reached out. But I’m ready to walk away from it. My health and happiness is more important than a game.”

Miller’s brother, Matt, quit the game after preseason workouts as a freshman at Wisconsin after suffering multiple concussions in high school. With his family history, Miller said he isn’t sure if he would allow a son to play the game.

“Football has taught me so much about life, it’s incredible how much I’ve learned from it.” Miller said. “That’s why my dad ultimately wanted me to play the game at a young age, then we found out I was good. But is it worth the potential injury? Really tough call.”

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA (answer below): On March 26, 1974, the Red Sox released which two future Hall of Famers?

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I had the option — the $20 million option — that they could’€™ve exercised and they didn’€™t. We tried to work on a deal, and the deal, we felt that it wasn’€™t in the ballpark of what we were looking for. We moved on, and they moved on, too. Had a great conversation with Bill [Belichick], and we moved forward just like they did. That’€™s how you look at it.” Darrelle Revis, addressing his decision to leave the Patriots for the Jets as a free agent

STAT OF THE DAY: 5 – Technical fouls called during the Celtics93-86 loss to the Heat on Wednesday

‘NET RESULTS (mobile users, check the website to see the videos): Nuggets guard Ty Lawson breaks the ankles of 76ers defender Isaiah Canaan, then feeds J.J. Hickson for a layup.

Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan posterizes Knicks forward Jason Smith in super slow motion.

Stars forward Jason Spezza toe drags then makes a nice pass to Jamie Benn for a goal against the Flames.

From a soccer game at the Future Champions Gauteng International Tournament in South Africa, the Ferroviario Maputo team from Mozambique celebrates too long after a goal — with the goalie racing past midfield to join his teammates — and the K-Stars from Zambia capitalize, putting the ball into play and scoring on a long shot into an empty net for a 1-1 tie.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Shortstop Luis Aparicio (who retired) and designated hitter Orlando Cepeda (who signed with the Royals for a final season in the majors)

SOOTHING SOUNDS: Steven Tyler was born on this day in 1948.
