To hear the segment, go to the Dennis & Callahan audio on demand page.

– Colin Farrell confirmed that has committed to appear in the second season of “True Detective,” the highly regarded HBO show that starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey this year.

Minihane called this development “promising.”

“I can live with that,” Minihane said. “I’m going to miss Woody and Matt, but it’s what it is.”

Dennis said McConaughey’s voice creeps him out, specifically referring to the actor’s Cadillac commercial that runs seemingly nonstop during football games.

“The voice is starting to wear on me, because I don’t think it’s original. I don’t think it’s legitimate,” Dennis said.

– The man who scaled the fence surrounding the White House and ran up to the front door before being arrested is due to appear in court Monday. Omar J. Gonzalez, an Army veteran who served in Iraq, fees charges of unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds while carrying a deadly or dangerous weapon.

“How does this possibly happen”” Dennis wondered. “He went into the White House.”

“See, Obama has proven that fences don’t work,” Thornton said. “You don’t need one on the border, because see, even the White House.”

Dennis questioned why the fence is not electrocuted, and he noted that snipers could have shot the man.

Minihane said the presidential palace does not seem to offer much appeal to kids.

“It doesn’t seem like a lot of fun to live in the White House,” Minihane said. “I think of these kids. … It just seems like a trap. You’ve always got the guards around you. I know it’s a big house. It just doesn’t seem like a lot of fun to me.”

– A Florida man was sentenced to five years in state prison after being convicted of raping an 8-month-old pit bull puppy in March. James Guy Bell, 62, of Daytona Beach, was repeatedly spotted fondling the dog and later having sex with the emaciated animal.

“I think we all agree that if it’s between two consenting mammals and they’re in a committed relationship that it’s a beautiful thing,” Thornton joked. “But eight months — what’s the age of consent for a pit bull?”

Minihane noted his disdain for cats and said he would support a plan to send them all to another planet or island.

“Cats are useless,” he said. “They eat mice, right? OK, but that’s it. That’s not enough for me.”

Added Thornton: “If you die, your dog will stay by your body until someone comes. A cat, you’ve got 24 hours before they’re eating you. They will pick your bones clean.”
Blog Dennis & Callahan general Mon, 22 Sep 2014 13:02:05 +0000 595161 at Mashup: Peterson reportedly in denial
Welcome to Monday’s Morning Mashup. Peterson has acknowledged the whipping, saying that it was a form of discipline and that he did not intend to injure the boy.

Peterson tweeted Friday that he passed a lie detector test. According to ESPN, a team source said that’s another indication that he “really doesn’t get it.”
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
The Vikings activated Peterson after he missed last Sunday’s game against the Patriots, but the team reversed course following an outpouring of criticism, placing him on the commissioner’s exempt list while he deals with his legal issues. Now the team, which continues to pay his $11.75 million salary, is said to be looking for ways to cut ties with Peterson.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said at his Friday press conference that players will be harshly punished for off-field violations including child abuse, and that apparently changed the Vikings’ expectations about Peterson’s return to the team.

– Ray Lewis turned some heads with a comment he made during his appearance on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” show while talking about former Ravens teammate Ray Rice, who was suspended indefinitely after video emerged of him knocking out his wife in a hotel elevator.

“Sometimes I think we get lost in trying to find out whose head to go after and who to attack now about what they didn’t do,” Lewis said. “Sometimes we forget why we’re here.
