Ballmer paid $2 billion for the team, a deal that was closed after a Los Angeles court confirmed that Shelly Sterling was authorized to represent The Sterling Family Trust, which owned the team.
“I hate losing the team,” said Shelly Sterling, who will be named “owner emeritus” and receive 12 tickets (two courtside), parking and VIP passes at Staples Center for home games.
She added: “I am confident that Steve will bring the city a championship team in the very near future.”

The NBA’s suit against Sterling is a counterclaim in response to his $1 billion antitrust lawsuit filed in June. The NBA alleges he caused “devastating and incalculable harm” to the league.
– The Pacers expect Paul Georgeto make a full recovery after he suffered a compound fracture in his right leg during a USA Basketball scrimmage, as his injury did not involve ligaments, tendons, joints or nerves. George underwent surgery Aug. 2 and is recuperating at his home.
In a Tuesday press conference, team president Larry Bird said a late-season return has not been ruled out, although typically it takes at least a year to recover.
“It’s going to be up to our doctors, our medical staff and Paul, but we would never put him in a situation where he’d be uncomfortable,” Bird said. “If he can play and he’s healthy to play, he’ll play. If our doctors think he’ll play at 60 to 70 percent, we wouldn’t do that.”
Added coach Frank Vogel of George: “He’s in really good spirits. He’s frustrated he’s not able to play this year. It’s going to be a tough process recovering from this, but he’s encouraged that a full recovery is expected.”
Now a Fox Sports analyst, McNabb told the New York Daily News it would be the wrong move for the Jets, who have Vick on their roster alongside second-year QB Geno Smith.
“The Jets tried this whole garbage with Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez and it got them nowhere,” McNabb said. “In the situation now, I think it takes away from what Geno Smith can do. It’s a maturity process for him to try to develop into an NFL quarterback. Now you’re taking him off the field or splitting him wide to bring in a 34-year-old quarterback? To do what? I understand the ‘wow’ effect, but it’s not a good thing for either quarterback.”
Added McNabb: ‘Mike wants to be the starter. He doesn’t want to go in there to be the Tim Tebow of the 2012 Jets. Nobody wants that.’
Marty Mornhinwheg was Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator in 2009, and he’s with the Jets now, preparing his team for occasional use of the wildcat.
“It depends how you do it,” Mornhinweg said. “I suspect looking forward there will be times when you may see a little bit. There may be times when you don’t see much of it.”
