Here are the highlights from Friday’s Headlines on Dennis & Callahan with Kirk MinihaneGerry Callahan and guest host Jon Meterparel. To hear the segment, go to the Dennis & Callahan audio on demand page.

–Longtime actor and comedian Robin Williams was suffering from the early stages of Parkinson’s disease and was sober when he committed suicide on Monday, his widow, Susan Schneider, said in a statement Thursday.

“It makes sense that that could’ve pushed him over the edge,” Callahan said. “He was in financial distress, probably struggling with his career, doing a stupid sitcom with Sarah Michelle Gellar and probably felt in that very dark place.”

Said Meterparel: “Probably felt he had nothing else to live for.”

“You could sort of see that being a closer,” Minihane said. “Parkinson’s seems like a brutal disease to live with.”

– NBC News announced Thursday that David Gregory, who led the program “Meet the Press” for almost six years, is leaving the network after 20 years. Chuck Todd will take his place Sept. 7.

“So they dump one snobby liberal for another snobby liberal,” Callahan said.

Said Minihane: “If you’re the people at NBC, it’s almost like getting a new commissioner of baseball. Don’t you think, ‘Let’s change it up?’ Is anybody going to say, ‘Oh my God, Chuck Todd is on now?’”

“I hate him, but wouldn’t [Keith Olbermann] draw more viewers?” Callahan said. “He’s a loose cannon, he’s completely nuts. Why wouldn’t you?”

Said Meterparel: “Because he’s not safe enough.

– India’s civil aviation regulator said Wednesday it ordered Jet Airways to suspend two pilots after a flight dove 5,000 feet, forcing air traffic controllers to issue an emergency warning.

The captain of the flight was reportedly on a scheduled rest break when the plane dropped almost 5,000 feet over Turkey during the flight from Mumbai to Brussels Aug. 8.

“The co-pilot was meant to be in charge of the plane while the captain snoozed, but claimed she was busy on her iPad and didn’t notice the plane had lost altitude,” Minihane said.

Callahan said: “Shouldn’t she have said she was in the bathroom?”

“After 1,000 feet I think you would notice,” Meterparel said.
