AROUND THE WEB:

— Deonte Thompson, a receiver for the Chicago Bears, took the stand on Monday in the Aaron Hernandez double murder trial.

Thompson, who was a teammate of Hernandez at the University of Florida, played for the Ravens in 2013 when Baltimore beat Hernandez’ Patriots in the Super Bowl.

“That’s my guy,” Thompson said about Hernandez, who smiled in response.

Thompson said he doesn’t remember much about the night Hernandez allegedly shot Avery Bradley in the face on Feb. 13, 2013. Thompson and Hernandez went to Tootsie’s, a strip club in Miami, that night for Thompson’s birthday and Thompson left before Bradley was shot.

“It’s kind of a blur. We were every day partying,” Thompson said. “We were kids … I had just won the Super Bowl.”

He said he thought Bradley and Hernandez “were just homies and whatnot. I thought they were pretty close.”

Hernandez and Thompson seemed happy to see each other and Thompson laughed as he was told to point out Hernandez in the courtroom and identified him by his purple tie.

— Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow faced Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer in a spring training game Monday and Tebow proved once again he is not ready for the major leagues.

When the Heisman Trophy winner stepped to the plate against the NL Cy Young Award winner, Tebow whiffed hard.

When Tebow faced AL Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello earlier this spring, things didn’t go much better for Tebow. He struck out twice and grounded into a double play. Porcello even said after the game he thought Tebow was the ball boy at first. In Porcello’s defense, Tebow did warm up in the wrong on-deck circle.

Tebow holds a .167 batting average this spring with 8 strikeouts in 24 at-bats.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I think Tommy’s sustained excellence is just unbelievable and it’s a lifestyle. He’s in training now, it’s not like he stopped. He works out — I remember after our first Super Bowl won going down in the training room of the old Foxboro Stadium three days after we won and he’s in there with the music blaring working out. He’s really dedicated.” — Robert Kraft, on Tom Brady’s work ethic
