Kings center Mike Richards, who was an important part of both of Los Angeles’ recent Cup wins, was placed on waivers Monday and cleared them on Tuesday after no NHL team claimed him.
Richards, who turns 30 next month, was assigned to Los Angeles’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, after posting less than desirable numbers for the past couple of years. This season, Richards has registered just five goals and 10 assists in 47 games.
Richards’ contract is worth $7 million this season and has a total 12-year, $69 million value that stretches to 2020.
Richards has played in 224 consecutive games for the Kings, but that streak will come to an end Wednesday night.
