Even the city’s own denizens couldn’t come up with anything better than empty calories and a degrading comparison to another equally deplorable metropolis to best describe Philadelphia.

In GQ’s quest to find “The Worst Sports Fans in America,” Eagles and Phillies fans tied for No. 1. This is, after all, a fan base that once booed Santa Claus. So, it should come as no surprise that Philadelphians killed hitchBot, a beloved hitchhiking robot whose sole goal was to travel across this great country and restore our faith in humanity.

Meanwhile, our faith in Philadelphia remains steadfast: Philly has no faith, and it will destroy your hopes and dreams, because Boston has repeatedly torn its heart out, set it afire and fed its body to the depths of hell.

Whether it was Havlicek stealing the ball, Super Bowl XXXIX or a sweep on the way to a Stanley Cup, Boston owns Philadelphia. Even Philly’s nicknames — Cradle of Liberty and Birthplace of America — are owed to Bostonians. As impartial observer Kevin Garnett said when asked to compare Philadelphia and Boston crowds, “Not even close. Not even close. You got fans, and then you got fair-weather fans. After successful tours across Canada, Germany and The Netherlands, the robot began its U.S. journey in Massachusetts, spending almost two weeks fishing off the shores of Gloucester, touring Boston and crossing off the first of its many bucket list items.

#hitchBOT bagged 1st bucket list item! If the past week has taught us anything, it’s that this year has been a trying one for Brady. Sometimes life just has you by the balls, and that was the case for Brady at age 37.

The year began with the old ball and chain embarrassing him on Instagram with a photo of the two smooching, as if anybody wants to see a devilishly handsome NFL quarterback and his supermodel wife embody all that God intended. UGGs, gross. Things only got worse for Brady, as his old lady quit her job and the powers that be at his place of employment are threatening his own livelihood. We’ve all been there, am I right? Let’s review just how brutal the past year has been for Brady. Maybe it’ll help cheer everyone up and make us realize our own existences aren’t so bad after all.

Big win tonight! Please keep his family and our team in your thoughts and prayers. He will rejoin the team at training camp and begin his suspension with the team’s regular-season opener Sept. 7.

“We worked in conjunction with the NFL on this matter, and we are highly supportive of the NFL personal conduct policy that holds all NFL and club employees to a higher standard,” Bills president Russ Brandon said in a statement.

Kromer, who previously served as the Bears offensive coordinator, was hired in January as part of the staff hired by new head coach Rex Ryan. Assistant Kurt Anderson has been covering for Kromer and is expected to fill in during the suspension.

Kormer’s suspension was the second big story related to the Bills offensive line Sunday. Earlier in the day, Ryan announced that former outcast Richie Incognito stands to be his starting left guard.

“One thing’s for sure, Richie’s a starter,” Ryan said at the team’s training camp in Pittsford, New York. “He looks about as good as any of them. He really does.”

Ryan said Incognito, who sat out all of 2014 after being fingered in the Dolphins bullying scandal during the 2013 season, was one of the team’s top performers in conditioning tests held Thursday, the day before camp opened.

“He’s everything we thought he’d be,” Ryan said. “I think he’s probably along further than I even thought he’d be as far as coming back in shape. It’s like he never missed any time.

Incognito, who has a history of troubling behavior, signed a one-year deal with the Bills in February. He has not played in a game since Oct. 31, 2013.

“It was a long road back,” Incognito said Sunday after being told of Ryan’s comments. “It was dark times. And it was something at times I didn’t was going to happen. But I’ve been blessed with an opportunity. … A lot of people laid their neck out on the line for me. And I just wanted to prove them right.”

Added Incognito: “It left a bad taste in my mouth to kind of leave the game like that. I had a lot of time away, a lot of time to think. And today, I definitely woke up with that in the back of my head.”

— A 9-year-old bat boy was in critical condition Sunday night, one day after being hit in the head by a bat during a tournament in Wichita, Kansas.

Kaiser Carlisle, who works for the Liberal (Kansas) Bee Jays, was retrieving a bat discarded by a batter when he was struck in the back of the head by a player warming up in the on-deck circle early in his team’s game against San Diego in the National Baseball Congress World Series. Carlisle was wearing a helmet.

“I heard him screaming and I turned back and the bat boy just walked out to grab the bat and the guy on the on-deck circle had no idea,” fan Malachi Lingg told local TV station KAKE. “He didn’t see him at all and took a swing right as the bat boy went by and hit him right in the back of the head.”

Home plate umpire Mark Goldfeder, a longtime paramedic, provided assistance until medical personnel took the boy away in an ambulance.

Players from both teams knelt in prayer before deciding to continue the game, won by Liberal in 13 innings.

“I’m just at a loss for words,” Liberal manager Adam Anderson said. “This was just so unfortunate and tragic and it was an accident. It was a very emotional game for our guys and it was incredible how they were able to claw through to just stay in the game mentally. Now all we can do is hope and pray that everything works out OK.”

ON THIS DAY TRIVIA (answer below): On Aug. 3, 1992, which Red Sox newcomer — acquired from the Reds the previous month — stole home in a 7-1 victory over the Blue Jays?

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I have now been president/CEO of the Red Sox for 14 years.
