LeGarrette Blount is the focus of the latest Patriots “scandal.” (Elsa/Getty Images)

PHOENIXTired of Deflategate? Luckily, there are no shortage of conspiracy theories when it comes to the New England Patriots. …

This time, the whispers and chin-scratching surrounds the fortuitous string of events that brought running back LeGarrette Blount back to the team. After spending the 2013 season with New England, Blount signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent, but his relationship with the team rapidly deteriorated. The question that’€™s fueling the conspiracy fires is whether he exacerbated the situation, knowing that if he were released, the Patriots would pick him up. …

Blount was asked if he knew he’€™d have a job waiting in New England if he and the Steelers parted. Blount offered no answer. Pressed again, he offered: ‘€œI didn’€™t know nothin’€™.’€

He did reveal one very telling thing, though: He was in almost constant contact with his former Patriots teammates, especially running back Stevan Ridley.

More and more over the last few weeks I find asking the same question, over and over again.

Has the world gone mad?

Not content with merely holding a great public discourse on the compression rate of an allegedly underinflated prolate spheroid, making Timmy the Towel Boy the subject of a manhunt or breaking down the mechanics of his potty break, we are now making a scandal out of a perfectly legitimate roster transaction. It’s Blountgate.

That’s how far this witch hunt has gone. After eleven days of finding nothing concrete to pin on the Patriots except two unsubstantiated leaked reports, the media is now trying to turn the LeGarrette Blount signing into a major conspiracy. Which you could do, I suppose. All it would take is a hair across your ass for the team the size of a Zakim Bridge cable, and to turn a blind eye to two simple facts:

One, Blount was cut by the Steelers.

Two, the Patriots were near the top of the league when Pittsburgh released him, meaning virtually every other team in the NFL had dibs on signing him, and none did.

So what they author here chooses to ignore is that Blount didn’t choose the Patriots. When the waiver process got to them, his options were either New England or unemployment. They scooped him up just before he swirled down the drain of retirement. And if any executive in the league had a problem with that, they damned sure took a pass on their chance to do anything about it.

But the truth – even the self-evident kind – never matter much when the task at hand is to find a party guilty of something. Anything. This is the equivalent of government thugs in some totalitarian hellhole searching your apartment without a warrant and they won’t stop until they find something incriminating. What’s this running back you’ve got here? Where did you get him? It looks suspicious to me…

The national press has gone so bonkers over this that now the simple act of a guy staying in touch with a former teammate is a smoking gun proving they’re secretly involved in some plot to defraud the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s Crazytown.

Hey, you know what? Back in November they signed long snapper Charley Hughlett to the practice squad and in December it was QB Garrett Gilbert. Those sound kind of fishy too. Maybe Steven Ridley cooked those moves up in secret too? Let’s launch and investigation followed by burning the front office at the stake so they can’t work their dark magic on us any more.

I’ve been called a paranoid Patriots fan before, but at this point, can you blame me? Like they say, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean people aren’t really out to get you.

This is the incident Dennis & Callahan and MFB talked about today. The WEEI contingent went out a nice steakhouse and Christian Fauria was reduced to tears by about a milligram of the house’s horseradish. The servers actually call it atomic horseradish, which is the perfect name because believe me, an ounce of this stuff in the wrong hands could level a city.

When I questioned Christian’s masculinity for not being able to handle the stuff, he dared/goaded/shamed me into eating some straight up, so I took the Atomic Horseradish Challenge.

Call it a test of manhood. Call it hazing the new guy. Call it a gang initiation. Call it workplace harassment in violation of Entercom policy. I call it proving I’m the toughest SOB on the station.

My boy say he can eat a spoonful of atomic horseradish, he can eat a spoonful of atomic horseradish. Oh well… seemed like something to do.
