The defeat was punctuated by George Karl's team finishing the game on a 16-0 run, outscoring the Celtics 28-15 in the final quarter.
Paul Pierce led the Celts with 17 points, while Kevin Garnett contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Rajon Rondo was held to just five points, having to play 43 minutes. Center Chris Johnson, who was signed from the NBA Developmental League's Dakota Wizards earlier Thursday, was forced into action, scoring six points.
Kenyon Martin led the Nuggets with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while one of Denver's newcomers, Wilson Chandler, pitched in with 16 points. The Nuggets are 2-0 since trading away Carmelo Anthony.
