According to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots are "closing in" on a deal with Rams free agent tight end Daniel Fells. A University of California-Davis product, Fells has seen limited action since signing with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Last season with St. Louis, the 6-foot-4, 272-pounder caught 21 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns, by far his most productive season. Fells also spent time with the Raiders and Buccaneers in 2007 and '08, although he did not get into a game for either team.
Meanwhile, according to multiple reports, former Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson is scheduled to meet with the Browns on Wednesday, after visiting the Seahawks Monday.
