Sidney Crosby's overtime goal, beating Team USA goalie Ryan Miller to the near-side post, gave Canada a 3-2 win, thwarting the United States' quest to earn its first Olympic gold medal in men's hockey since 1980. Crosby's goal came 7:40 into the extra period. Zach Parise sent the teams into overtime, scoring off a rebound just outside of the crease with 25 seconds left. Team USA fell into a 2-0 hole after Canada's Jonathan Toews fired in a first-period rebound, and Corey Perry scored in the second period.
