After the Jets beat up the Bills by a 38-7 count in their regular-season finale, New York coach Rex Ryan reiterated his belief that the Jets will win the Super Bowl. Though the team's 11-5 record resulted in the No. 6 seed in the AFC and a trip to Indianapolis for the wild card round of the playoffs, Ryan's confidence remained undiminished.
"I was excited last year. I thought we’d win it last year. I think we’re gonna win it this year, so we’ll see. Regardless of who we play, we think we’re better than any team out there. We have to go prove it, though," Ryan told reporters. "We want to win the Super Bowl. That’s what our fans want and all that. They’re not happy just getting to the playoffs, even though it’s a heck of an accomplishment to get here. That’s not what we signed up for. I said the day I took this job that I came here to win Super Bowls. That’s the truth. I have none right now, but I know one thing, whoever we play is going to get my best shot. They’re going to get this team’s best shot. And let’s see if we’re not good enough to win this whole thing."
The Jets will be facing a Colts team that ended their Super Bowl ambitions last season, when Indianapolis won, 30-17, in the AFC championship game. Ryan said that his team relishes the playoff rematch.
"I don’t know if you can get more excited about the opportunity that we have in front of us, regardless of the fact that we’re playing Indy again. I know one thing: We’re going to give them everything we have. I feel confident in our football team. I’m excited to get dialed in," he said. "We have no excuses — not one excuse. We are ready to go do what we set out to do. If somebody is going to beat us, then they must be really good."
If the Jets were to upset the Colts, they would be the Patriots' opponent in the divisional round of the playoffs, following New England's first-round bye. If Indianapolis wins, then the Patriots will play the winner of the Chiefs-Ravens game.
