ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter made his weekly appearance on the Dennis & Callahan show Friday morning to talk about the NFL playoffs. Looking at the AFC championship game, Schefter said New York's game plan is simple: Keep it close and wait for the other team to make a mistake. "If the Jets can withstand the early onslaught and not fall behind 10-0, 14-0, and it's a 0-0 game, it's a 3-3 game, then they're going to have a chance to pull it out in the end again," Schefter said. "I don't know if the Colts are going to choke or do dumb things like San Diego did — I have more faith in Peyton Manning and Jim Caldwell than I do in the Chargers and some of their troops. But I will tell you that if the Jets win this game, it's going to be because they earned it."
As well as the Jets have played, Schefter said they still won't be expected to overtake the Patriots and win the AFC East next season. "I'll always stick my money with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick," Schefter said. "I look at the upcoming draft, and New England is loaded with picks in a very deep draft. They had a lot of picks last year, and guys will be back with another year of experience. I think Brady will be healthier next season. I will pick New England next year."
As for the NFC game, Schefter said New Orleans fans will be fired up as the Superdome hosts an NFC championship for the first time. "That place is going to as loud as any football stadium has ever been for a home team," Schefter said. "If the Vikings can somehow take [the fans] out of the game early on, not fall victim to it, then they can withstand the onslaught." Schefter also said injuries to key players on the Minnesota defensive line will be a factor.
