The updates on injured center Jermaine O'Neal have been sporadic since he suffered a knee injury, but Doc Rivers said before Wednesday's game that O'Neal may start working out next week. "I talked to Jermaine today on the phone and he was hoping to work out next week," Rivers said. "That’s the first time I’ve heard that, so that’s a good sign."
Rivers said earlier in the week that he would wait for trainer Eddie Lacerte to tell him when O'Neal was "a week away." That conversation hasn't happened yet, so don't expect a quick return to the court.
