FOXBORO — Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork said the booing at Gillette Stadium on Sunday made it feel like they were playing a road game.
“It felt like we were playing an away game — that’s what it felt like,” Wilfork said of the booing, which started in the first quarter of Sunday’s playoff loss to he Ravens. “I’m telling you — for some much this team has done in the past … I don’t understand it. They pay their money. They want to see a good show. They want to see blowouts all the time. They want to have the big plays. But it [doesn’t] happen like that all the time.
“So, that was tough. But hey, they have their right to their opinion. That’s how they feel, and they let us know. We didn’t help by playing any better than we did … so, take it for whatever it’s worth.”
Wilfork, in the final year of a six-year contract he signed as a rookie, also touched on his contract status. He said he wants to stay in New England, but would certainly balk at a one-year franchise tag, preferring a long-term deal instead.
“I could have been easily sitting down and wanting my money and trying to prove a point, but that’s not me,” Wilfork said. “I said I’m loyal to my word. I’m sticking by my word. I want to be a Patriot. But that’s not up to me.”
