Appearing in studio on the Dennis & Callahan show Thursday morning, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck talked about his excitement regarding the C's entering the new season, saying, "It's not only a fun team, it's fun to beat people senseless."
"I just saw camp, and based on camp, these guys know it's right in front of them," Grousbeck said. "We all want to get back there."
When asked about the prediction by ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy that the Miami Heat wouldn't lose two games in a row all season, and that they would break the record for most wins in a season, Grousbeck responded, "He can't stand us. He doesn't know what he's talking about."
Grousbeck also talked about the acquisition of Shaquille O'Neal, who signed a two-year deal worth $3 million in the offseason. "They actually called me and asked if should get Shaq or should we get 'Player X.' ... I said, 'Let's go get Shaq,' " Grousbeck said. "We appreciate him taking the pay cut to come and be part of something special."
Grousbeck said he wasn't sure if the foundation of last season's Celtics team would be back, explaining, "I thought it was important that Doc [Rivers] decided to come back."
When the subject of the Heat and LeBron James leaving Cleveland came up, Grousbeck talked about how he does feel for Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert. "Dan, his heart is broken," the C's owner said. "He poured it out in a way I'm sure he regrets." Grousbeck went to say regarding James' decision, "I think LeBron has the perfect right to do what he did."
Grousbeck also promoted an Oct. 13 gala benefitting the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, with Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block calling in to help publicize the event and the cause. For more information on the night, and how to support the cause, click here.
