Jon Lester cruised through his 6 1/3-inning outing, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out seven in the Red Sox' 3-0 win over the Indians, Thursday night at Fenway Park. Lester, who threw 84 pitches in his first start since being hit on the quad with a line-drive at Yankee Stadium, was followed by scoreless relief from Daniel Bard, Billy Wagner, and Jonathan Papelbon. Leading the Red Sox offense was Jacoby Ellsbury, who had three hits, with Victor Martinez, Jason Bay and Alex Gonzalez each notching two hits apiece.
