The Patriots have confirmed an earlier report that they have signed veteran offensive guard Kendall Simmons. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Simmons, a first-round pick of Pittsburgh in 2002, was on the shelf last season with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon. The 30-year-old out of Auburn was a free agent, and he remained unsigned throughout the summer. Simmons started 46 of 48 regular-season games from 2005 through 2007.
