Boston College senior Andre Williams was named the winner of the 2013 Doak Walker Award, given to the country’s top running back. Williams led the nation with 2,102 yards rushing in 12 games, good for 175.2 yards per game. He is the first Eagle to win the award.
Earlier this week, Williams was named one of six Heisman Trophy finalists, joining Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, Auburn running back Tre Mason, Alabama QB A.J. McCarron and Florida State QB Jameis Winston. He will be in New York City for the award’s presentation Saturday night.
Williams joined Dennis & Callahan on Wednesday and said he still couldn’t wrap his head around the idea of being a Heisman finalist.
“I’m really just excited to get down there and see what it’s all about, be around other great players and learn about the history of the award,” Williams said. “I just feel blessed that I have the opportunity to be able to make it out there and I’m just so thankful to my teammates, and my coaches and my fans that have been supporting me along the way.”
