Brad Penny was fined for hitting Alex Rodriguez the Red Sox' June 11 win over the Yankees at Fenway Park. Penny drew criticism from New York manager Joe Girardi the day after the game, insinuating that the Sox' hurler intentionally threw at Rodriguez. Girardi later addressed his own comments, saying, "He’s got to do what he thinks is right and I’m OK with that. It’s not like I blasted Brad Penny - I just said I thought he hit Alex Rodriguez on purpose. I wasn’t 100 percent sure and only Brad Penny knows. I shared a feeling that I had and didn’t mean to stir anything up. I just said what I thought.” For more on the controversies surrounding the Yankees and Red Sox hit batsmen and what it means heading into Thursday night's Joba Chamberlain start against the Sox, CLICK HERE.
