ST. LOUIS -- Asked to assess whether anything in his major-league career had come as a surprise based on his time in the Red Sox' farm system, Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez could cite only one thing.
"I never thought I was going to get traded," Ramirez said.
Ramirez harbors no ill will about the deal, noting that he loves playing for the Marlins, and would like to spend his entire career in Florida. That said, he also admitted to being flattered by rumors that the Sox tried to re-acquire him this past offseason.
"They see the way you play and they want you back," he said.
