With the beginning of the blizzard that is expected to deliver at least a couple of feet of snow to the Boston area Friday and Saturday, a number of local sporting events have been canceled.
The Bruins moved their Saturday afternoon game against the Lightning back six hours to 7 p.m.
The Providence Bruins rescheduled their Friday home game against the Portland Pirates to Monday at 7:05.
Five men’s Hockey East games have been postponed. Of the games scheduled for Friday, the New Hampshire at Providence game has been rescheduled for Wednesday. Northeastern will now go to UMass on Feb. 19. UMass-Lowell will visit Boston College on Feb. 26, and Merrimack will go to Boston University on the 26th as well. Saturday’s game between UMass and Merrimack, in North Andover, has been rescheduled for Sunday.
Three women’s Hockey East games have also been postponed, all originally scheduled for Saturday. Northeastern now will travel to UConn on Feb. 19, and BC will visit Providence that same day. New Hampshire will reschedule its trip to BU for Feb. 20.
Three Atlantic Hockey men’s games scheduled for Friday will now be played Sunday afternoon: Sacred Heart at Holy Cross, Connecticut at Bentley, and AIC at Army.
Central Connecticut State, Bryant and Bentley all have rescheduled men’s and women’s home basketball doubleheaders from Saturday to Sunday.
Boston College hosts fourth-ranked Duke on Sunday at 6 p.m., assuming the Blue Devils can get a flight into Boston.
The Celtics also are scheduled to host a game Sunday at 6 p.m., with Denver due to pay a visit.
