Ryan Anderson had 26 points and nine rebounds as Boston College picked up its first ACC road in almost two years with an 86-75 victory over Virginia Tech on Wednesday night in Blacksburg, Va.
Anderson hit 11-of-17 shots and just missed recording his fifth double-double of the season. Also for BC (9-6, 1-1 ACC), Lonnie Jackson, playing all 40 minutes, hit 5-of-8 from 3-point range en route to a 22-point outing. Olivier Hanlan contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Erick Green, who came in leading the nation in scoring at 24.6 points per game, finished with 24 points and nine assists for Virginia Tech (9-6, 0-2), while Jarell Eddie scored 21 points.
BC trailed by four points with just under four minutes left in the first half before closing the period on a 10-0 run, capped by a Dennis Clifford dunk with four seconds left, to take a 32-26 halftime lead. The Eagles quickly extended the lead to 12 points at 42-30 after a long 3-pointer from Hanlan.
Virginia Tech battled back to within three points at 61-58 with seven minutes kept after a C.J. Barksdale layup, but that was as close as the hosts would get. Jackson, who hit a long 3-pointer with 1:27 left to make it a 10-point game, made 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to ice it. That helped atone for another bad game from the line for the Eagles, who hit just 20-of-35 (57.1 percent).
BC did not win a road game in or out of the conference last season. The Eagles' last ACC road win also was at Virginia Tech's Cassell Coliseum, on March 1, 2011.
