Patrick Heckmann scored 19 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in a 15-0 second-half run, and Ryan Anderson had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Boston College to a 70-60 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at Conte Forum.
Olivier Hanlan added 14 points for the Eagles (7-5), who avenged a 22-point loss a year ago.
Eric Obeysekere scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting while Dave Dudzinski tallied 15 points for Holy Cross (7-6).
BC led by five at the half, 35-30. After HC closed to within a pair at 37-35, BC embarked on a 15-0 run that included a pair of 3-pointers from Heckmann. HC's Malcolm Miller (13 points) ended the run when he got free for a dunk with 9:30 remaining, but the damage was done. The Crusaders got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
The Eagles hit 10-of-24 3-pointers (41.7 percent), led by Heckmann's 5-of-7. For a team that came in hitting just 31 percent from long range, it was a big boost.
Said BC coach Steve Donahue: "We made shots. We haven't done that consistently this year."
Last year, in the first road game for BC's freshmen class, Holy Cross rolled to an 86-64 victory at Worcester's DCU Center. The Crusaders ran all over the Eagles in that one, and BC was set on avoiding a repeat.
"Coach talked about that in practice," said Heckmann, who missed last year's game with an injury. "I think that was one of our worst games last year. … It was pretty bad to watch it. We just couldn't let that happen again."
BC next hosts Dartmouth on Monday afternoon in its last nonconference game before beginning ACC play by hosting NC State next Saturday. Holy Cross hosts Yale on Friday night.
