Gronk: I'll play 'when the doctors clear me'
FOXBORO -- Repeating the message of his coach five hours earlier, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski told reporters Wednesday that the decision to return to the playing field is not in his hands but rather that of the team's medical staff.
"When the doctors clear me, when the training staff clears me and when I'm medically ready to play, and they let me play, I'm sure that's when I'll be out there," Gronkowski told reporters when asked if he knows whether he'll play this Sunday in the regular season finale against the Dolphins at Gillette Stadium.
It was the first time Gronkowski spoke with reporters since suffering a broken left forearm on the final extra point of New England's 59-28 win over the Colts at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 18.
"Basically, the doctors know what they're talking about. They'll know when it's safe and sound and ready to go," Gronkowski added. "I'm going to trust in them, and when they say so, I'm anxious to get out there, so obviously I want to go."
Gronkowski was limited at Patriots practice on Wednesday, which was only a light walk-through inside Dana-Farber Field House. Gronkowski has missed the last five games since breaking his left forearm against the Colts.
Gronkowski returned to practice on Dec. 14 but was declared inactive against the 49ers and Jaguars. For more, visit the Patriots team page at weei.com/patriots.
