Chambers, Harvard rout BC; UMass tops NU

Freshman point guard Siyani Chambers scored 21 points as Harvard continued its dominance of Boston College, coasting to a 79-63 victory at Conte Forum. It marks the fifth straight year the Crimson have defeated the Eagles.

Wesley Saunders added 18 points and Jonah Travis netted 14 for Harvard (4-3).

Ryan Anderson scored 23 points on 11-of-12 shooting for BC (3-5), while Lonnie Jackson scored 13 and Joe Rahon had 12. Sophomore center Dennis Clifford (ankle injury) did not play, sitting on the bench with his right foot in a boot.

Both teams shot the ball well, with Harvard hitting 54.9 percent of its field goals and BC checking in at 58.1 percent. although the Eagles were just 3-of-13 from 3-point range.

The Crimson led by two at the break, 31-29, and opened the second half on an 8-0 run, capped by a 3-point play from Chambers. After BC closed the gap to six at 42-36, Harvard embarked on a 15-1 run, with eight of the points coming from Chambers. That gave Harvard a 20-point lead at 57-37 with 12:34 remaining. BC got no closer than 15 the rest of the way, and the biggest deficit was 22.

In other local action, Jesse Morgan and Chaz WIlliams each scored 18 points as UMass held off Northeastern, 72-66, at Matthews Arena.

Morgan hit four 3-pointers down the stretch for the Minutemen (4-3), who also received 14 points from Sampson Carter.

Reggie Spencer scored 15 points and Quincy Ford added 14 for the Huskies (4-4). NU shot just 35.3 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from 3-point range (3-for-27).

UMass played without sophomore center Cady Lalanne, who was suspended by the team following his Saturday night arrest for allegedly interfering with a police officer at a campus dance. Lalanne is averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds.
