Shortstop Jed Lowrie began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday. He went 0-for-1 with a flyout and two walks in his three plate appearances, and successfully handled all three of his fielding opportunities (two grounders and a pop-up) before being lifted in the bottom of the fourth. Lowrie, recovering from surgery on his left wrist, is expected to spend as much as two weeks in the minors in what manager Terry Francona has described as a sort of second spring training after spending two months without playing in a game.
