Cabrera trounces Trout in MVP voting
Detroit's Miguel Cabrera claimed the American League MVP, easily out-distancing second-place finisher, Angels rookie Mike Trout.
Cabrera, who became the first Triple Crown winner in 45 years, received 22 of 28 first-place votes, with Trout receiving the other six. The Tigers' third baseman finished with 362 points, while the Angels' outfielder totaled 281 points. One voter, Sheldon Ocker from the Akron Beacon Journal, was the only voter to not put Cabrera and Trout in second spot, giving Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre a second-place vote.
Cabrera finished with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI, becoming the first Triple Crown winner since the Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski won the award 1967. The last four Triple Crown winners have won the MVP.
San Francisco catcher Buster Posey took home the National League MVP.
