BC can't keep pace with No. 16 Baylor
Speedy point guard Pierre Jackson scored 31 points Thursday afternoon as 16th-ranked Baylor defeated Boston College, 84-74, in the quarterfinals of the Charleston (S.C.) Classic.
Jackson, the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, finished 10-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-10 treys. He also had a game-high seven assists.
For BC (1-1), sophomore forward Ryan Anderson scored 25 points, 19 coming in the first half when he shot 8-of-12. Freshman guard Olivier Hanlan had 16 points (13 in the second half) and grabbed six rebounds.
BC led by two at the half, 43-41, after Anderson nailed a 43-footer at the buzzer. The Eagles were up five before Baylor (3-0) went on a 10-0 run, capped by consecutive treys from Jackson, to take a 57-52 lead with 13:45 remaining.
The Eagles were within two, 67-65, with 6:10 left after a layup by Andrew Van Nest, but Baylor then went on an 8-1 run to take control. Isaiah Austin (16 points) capped the run with a long 3-pointer. BC got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Boston College next plays Dayton on Friday at 3 p.m. in a consolation bracket game. Baylor meets Colorado in a semifinal at 12:30 p.m.
