Ainge on Big Show: Rondo foul wasn't 'punk'

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge made the first of his weekly appearances during Celtics season on The Big Show Thursday. 

Ainge said he wasn't surprised that Kevin Garnett paid no attention to Ray Allen when the former Celtic came over to acknowledge his former teammates during the first quarter of Tuesday's season-opener. 

"I think Ray obviously had motives to say hi to the team, and I just don't KG was interested in any of that," Ainge said. "KG is a guy that's focused on the game, and nobody knows that better than Ray."

Ainge said that he himself had tried to get in touch with Allen after the shooting guard signed with the Heat, but that he, like Doc Rivers, was unsuccessful because Allen changed his phone number.  

"I've tried to reach out to ray. Ray doesn't have the same number," Ainge said. "I didn't even realize that until recently, but he hand't responded and I just thought he wasn't responding."

As for the team's season-opening loss to the Heat, Ainge said the C's simply didn't perform as well as Miami. 

"I just did not think we played well," he said. "I didn't' think we were very aggressive offensively or defensively. Offensively I felt like we were trying to take shortcuts, and defensively I just didn't feel like we were aggressive throughout the course of the game. We didn't attack them. We were reacting to what they were doing.

"I really like our team. I think our team's going to be good, but I just didn't think we played very well."

Ainge disagreed with Dwyane Wade, who called Rajon Rondo's late flagrant foul a "punk play." 

"I don't think [it was], no," Ainge said. "I thought Wade got by Rondo and he fouled him to prevent the lay-in. Sometimes you get yourself in ugly positions. I don't think he meant to grab him around the neck. It just happened that way."
