According to major league sources, the Red Sox will interview Marlins pitching coach Randy St. Claire about their vacant pitching coach position on Thursday, and the team also has received permission to interview Royals bullpen coach Steve Foster for the position. Those two will join Orioles minor league pitching coordinator Rick Peterson and White Sox bullpen coach Juan Nieves as candidates for the position.
St. Claire, who pitched for parts of nine seasons in the big leagues from 1984-94, was the Expos/Nationals pitching coach from 2003-09 and then served in the same capacity with the Marlins from 2010-12. However, with the Marlins having fired manager Ozzie Guillen, members of the 2012 Miami coaching staff have permission to seek other jobs.
Foster spent the 2010-12 seasons as the bullpen coach with the Royals after spending three years in the same job with the Marlins. He was promoted from that position to the role of Special Assistant to the GM and Royals minor league pitching coordinator on August 31. He spent parts of three years pitching in the majors with the Reds from 1991-93.
News of St. Claire's interview was first reported by Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com.
