Scutaro leads Giants to World Series title

Former Red Sox shortstop Marco Scutaro's RBI single in the 10th inning lifted the Giants to a 4-3 win over the Tigers and their second World Series title in the last three seasons.

Scutaro delivered a two-out line drive against Detroit reliever Phil Coke that fell in front of center fielder Austin Jackson and scored Ryan Theriot from second. The San Francisco second baseman, MVP of the NLCS, finished the postseason 6-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval was named World Series MVP after hitting .500 with three home runs.

Detroit, which entered Sunday night's showdown at Comerica Park having lost the first three games of the Series, tied the game in the sixth inning thanks to a Delmon Young solo home run.

The Tigers claimed a 2-1 lead in the third inning thanks to Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer off San Francisco starter Matt Cain. The Giants, however, jumped back on top in the sixth when Buster Posey notched a two-run blast.

Cain allowed three runs on five hits over his seven innings, while Detroit starter Max Scherzer lasted 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.

Giants closer Sergio Romo closed out the World Series-clinching game by striking out the side in the 10th, including Cabrera to end the game.
