An industry souce confirmed a report from the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo that the Red Sox and Blue Jays have begun preliminary discussions about potential compensation for Toronto manager John Farrell.
The Sox have interviewed Yankees bench coach Tony Pena, Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach and Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus for the vacant managerial position and will interview Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale on Thursday. But Farrell, according to several reports, still appears to the be top target for the Sox.
The 50-year old Farrell has a 154-170 record in two seasons as manager of the Blue Jays, finishing in fourth place in the American League in each season. The former Sox pitching coach has one year remaning on his contract with Toronto.
