Welker not concerned with low numbers

FOXBORO -- In the wake of his three-catch performance Sunday in a win over the Titans, Wes Welker didn't sound like someone who was too upset. 

Welker finished with three catches on five targets for a total of 14 yards in the 34-13 win over Tennessee. It was his lowest output, yardage-wise, since the 2009 regular-season finale against the Texans -- the game where he suffered a brutal knee injury -- when he had one catch for 12 yards. (Before that, you have to go all the way back to the 2006 season when he had one catch for 11 yards in a Dolphins loss to the Jets -- his next-to-last game in a Miami uniform -- to find such an inauspicious day.)

But Welker wasn't complaining about things when he met the media Monday at Gillette Stadium.

"At the end of the day, it's about winning ballgames," Welker said Monday afternoon. "However we need to do that or whatever we need to do, that's what we're going to do.

"That's the ultimately goal every time we go out there on Sunday and however I can contribute -- whether it's a big day in stats or not or in blocking or however I need to do it, that's what it's going to be. I'm just going to try and do my part as far as that goes."

Welker did manage to get in a shot at his quarterback. Tom Brady was bloodied after a first-half sack by Tennessee defensive end Kamerion Wimbley, but didn't miss any time after getting banged up. (Brady sported a bandage across his nose in the second half, and when he met the media at the end of the game.)

"He's such a good looking guy," Welker said with a smile. "Obviously, he gets banged up -- he's probably the toughest metrosexual I've come across."

Welker then turned serious.

"He's done a great job," he said of Brady, who finished the game 23-for-31 for 236 yards and two touchdowns. "Anytime you see a leader out there going out there and taking hits like that ... you ask him if its broken and he doesn't know and he doesn't care. He loves football and he loves playing and he does a great job."
