Spoilers: Angels ruin Pesky night at Fenway

Mark Trumbo connected for a tape-measure blast over the Green Monster in left-center and Ervin Santana allowed two runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings to help the Angels snap a four-game skid and beat the Red Sox, 5-3, Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The loss spoiled a night that began with a stirring memorial tribute by the Red Sox to their late patriarch Johnny Pesky, who was remembered with a No. 6 in the outfield grass behind shortstop and a likeness of the "Pesky Pole" running from behind second base to the center field warning track. The Red Sox also received permission from MLB to have every player and coach in uniform wear Pesky's No. 6 for the game.

The Angels, who won for just the sixth time in 19 games, broke through against Boston starter Aaron Cook with a single run in the third as Albert Pujols drove home Mike Trout with his second hit of the night. The Angels added two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth, as they chased the Red Sox starter from the game. The final blow against Cook came in the fifth when Trumbo launched his 30th homer of the season, a titanic blast over the Volvo billboard in left-center. 

Cook (3-7) was finished after five innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs -- four earned -- while walking one and striking out four. It was Cook's sixth loss in his last seven decisions after starting out 2-1 on the season. 

The Red Sox began their comeback against Santana (7-10) in the sixth on a two-run homer by Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Angels right fielder Torii Hunter appeared to overrun the ball as it landed just beyond the short fence for Saltalamacchia's 21st homer of the season and first since July 27 at New York. Santana came in with a 6-10 record and a 5.59 ERA. 

The Red Sox added another run in the seventh when Scott Podsednik doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Red Sox threatened later in the seventh after a Dustin Pedroia single and put two runners on in the eighth but could not score. Clayton Mortensen was impressive in relief of Cook, retiring all six batters he faced, striking out three.
