Ciriaco does it again, leads Sox to win

NEW YORK -- Pedro Ciriaco's bloop single with one out in the 10th inning -- just over the head of drawn-in first baseman Mark Teixeira -- lifted the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Yankees on Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.

Ciriaco's game-winner -- his second in as many nights -- scored Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who had led off the frame with a walk. Saltalamacchia was moved over on a single from Will Middlebrooks, who was in the middle of controversy the pitch prior to the hit after seemingly being hit in the hand on a bunt attempt. After the umpiring crew failed to award first to Middlebrooks, both Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine and pitcher Josh Beckett were ejected.

The win moves the Red Sox back to .500 at 51-51, four games behind the Angels in the race for the second wild card. The Sox finished off their six-game road trip at 3-3, having taken two of three games against the Yankees.

The Yankees tied it up with two outs in the eighth when Russell Martin jumped all over Alfredo Aceves' first pitch of the game, scoring Andruw Jones. Jones had reached via a two-out double against Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller. It was the fifth blown save of the season for Aceves.

Felix Doubront turned in one of his best outings of the season, allowing one run on four hits, striking out eight and walking five. The only run allowed by Doubront (who threw 109 pitches) came on a solo homer by Martin in the seventh inning.

Doubront's line was kept intact by Miller, who came in after the Sox starter had allowed an infield single to Ichiro Suzuki and Derek Jeter managed an opposite-field single off reliever Matt Albers. Miller came on and induced a shallow fly ball to left field by Curtis Granderson and proceeded to end the threat via a ground ball to second by Mark Teixeira.

Both Red Sox runs came in the second inning when Ryan Sweeney doubled in Adrian Gonzalez and Saltalamacchia. The hit into the left-center field gap came off Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda, who would only give up those two runs in eight innings of work.

Claiming two hits apiece for the Red Sox were Jacoby Ellsbury and Gonzalez.
