Ross batting third, Gomez at DH

With David Ortiz on the disabled list, Mauro Gomez -- having been called up with Ortiz sidelined -- will bat sixth and serve as designated hitter. Cody Ross moves up from the middle of the order to the top of the order, batting in Ortiz's customary third spot, as the Red Sox prepare to face White Sox left-hander Pedro Hernandez in his major league debut.
