The Celtics won't tweak much on their defense against LeBron James in Game 7 after he scored 45 points in Game 6, but they will try to play their defense better. That was the focus from coach coach Doc Rivers on a conference call with reporters, Friday afternoon.
"We’re not going to do much. We do what we do. Defensively for the most part we have to do it better. I thought, obviously, LeBron had a great game. I thought there were things we should have done better in the game, with the way we were playing him. And we didn't do that. That's the first thing we have to correct. Then if we have to do something else, we'll do it."
As for the criticism that James has taken over the years, Rivers once again defended the superstar.
"He’s a great player all right? I don’t know what else he can do," Rivers said. "He does the right thing. When he does the makes the right pass and a guy misses a shot he’s criticized. When he forces a shot when he’s double-team he’s criticized. It’s just the way it is with him, for whatever reason."
As for his own team, Rivers said that they need to get Kevin Garnett the ball with a chance to score and he's not worried about the effects of playing every other day.
"We feel good," he said. "We’re going to watch film today and walk through tomorrow and we’ll be ready to play at 8:30. There’s no time now to think about being tired and all that stuff."
