Iglesias out at least a few more days
Red Sox shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias was in Boston Thursday for a medical evaluation of the ongoing lower back stiffness that has kept him out of action for Triple-A Pawtucket for the last six days. While a team source said that the condition is "not a significant issue," he is expected to miss a few more games. That, in turn, means that if the Sox do make a roster move to add infield depth at a time when Dustin Pedroia remains sidelined by his torn adductor muscle in his right thumb, Iglesias would not be available in the near term.
Though Iglesias was 4-for-22 in his most recent six games, he finished May with a line of .341/.364/.427/.790. In the process, he set new career highs in average, OBP, slugging and OPS for a single month in which he played at least 10 games.
