Allen's status in doubt for playoffs

WALTHAM -- Ray Allen didn't practice with the Celtics on Friday. He may try to get on the floor on Saturday before the team heads to Atlanta to begin their playoff series with the Hawks on Sunday, but beyond that there is no clear timetable for his return from an injured ankle.

Asked whether he was confident that Allen would be ready, coach Doc Rivers wouldn't say. "I don’t know if I’m confident or not," Rivers said. "I don’t have an answer. I don’t know how to answer that."

Allen hasn't played since April 10 against Miami and has missed the last nine games. Allen said earlier in the week that an MRI had detected bone spurs that were causing his ankle to swell.

"There’s nothing I can do about it," Rivers said. "His rhythm is not going to be good. He hasn’t played in two weeks. He’s been running on that space machine that takes up all the whatever, so he hasn’t even run on the floor. If he’s ready to play we’re going to play him. Whether he has rhythm or can make shots will dictate that. I’d like to see him on the floor. Rhythm or no rhythm. If I tell Ray to stand in the corner, someone’s going to stand next to him. That creates spacing and that’s good for us." 

Everyone else was on the court and Paul Pierce said his toe felt fine after he aggravated it on Thursday against the Bucks.
