Ortiz: 'I got that big old monkey off my back'
Predictably enough, David Ortiz was in excellent spirits after hitting his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning against Toronto left-hander Brett Cecil. Ortiz said that a weight had been lifted, and suggested that his ability to carry that into aggressive swings in his two subsequent at-bats (a strikeout and single) suggested that he was on the track to reversing a brutal season-long slump, and a homer-less drought that had reached a career-long 149 at-bats.
"I feel like I got all my confidence back," Ortiz said. "I look like a real hitter out there, not like the Punch and Judy (hitter) I have been for the first 40 games."
