Celtics survive battle with New York

It wasn't pretty but the Celtics came alive in the fourth quarter to take a hard-fought 91-89 win over the Knicks on Friday night at TD Garden.
The Celtics built a 90-85 lead with less than two minutes remaining but the Knicks wouldn't go away. Tyson Chandler scored on a lob and a Landry Fields steal and dunk made it a one-point game.
The Knicks had a chance to take the lead but Iman Shumpert missed a wide-open 3-pointer. On the other end, Paul Pierce appeared to make a ridiculous circus shot with the clock running down, but after a lengthy review it was ruled that it came after the shot clock had expired. The Knicks had one more chance, but the Celtics swarmed Carmelo Anthony and forced Fields to miss a corner 3-pointer.
Pierce scored 30 points in 44 minutes of action and helping offset Anthony, who scored 26. Kevin Garnett added 15 points and eight rebounds and Ray Allen scored nine of his 14 points in the final quarter including two huge 3-pointers that helped the Celtics break a 79-79 tie.
Rajon Rondo returned after missing eight games with a sprained wrist and it's clear his transition back to the lineup will take some time. The Celtics shot just 41 percent and turned it over 19 times with just 21 assists. Rondo finished with seven points and seven assists in 33 minutes.
